Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to develop and translate two assessment tools that compared the similarities and differences of the importance of seven critical skills to manufacturers and technical training educators. This study was conducted using a mail survey consisting of two questionnaires, one for manufacturers and one for technical training institutions in the metropolitan Bangkok area.; A factor analysis showed that manufacturers placed greater importance on basic sewing procedures, whereas educators placed more importance on procedures using specialized machines. The chi-square test results showed significant differences between manufacturers and educators with regard to the importance of various clothing items. The results from this study will improve the flow of information between apparel technical training educators and apparel manufacturers. The findings will also be useful for improving and validating training programs, making curriculum adjustments, disseminating job placement information, and establishing productive relationships.
