Automation is being implemented in our contemporary society creating an atmosphere of fast production and profit. Yet, it limits efficiency, productivity, creates conflict in the form of dangerous health and safety conditions, causes chaos in the workplace and takes power from many bringing about reorganization.;The final result shows that as the Postal Service builds its empire and accumulates resources (technology and money) it is challenged by competitors (United Parcel and Federal Express). It then has to extend beyond its logistical capacities losing its technological advantages and being forced into automation and other extremes. The use of automation, then, brings about chaos, conflict and reorganization.;My study is based on an ethnographic study of the Postal Service's Mail Processors. A Social Conflict Theory perspective was applied. The methodology used is macro-quantitative. The contributions of Karl Marx and Harry Braverman were used to support my theory.
