Abstract/Summary:
The scope of this thesis was to develop methods for determining change order markup values. This scope was investigated in terms of cost and time within the Alberta construction industry. Research was conducted using a twelve page mail-out survey. Conclusions from the industry survey are summarized below: (1) There is disagreement regarding what percentage markup values for change order costs are fair and reasonable. One set markup percentage for all change orders is not appropriate. (2) Because there is significant disagreement regarding the classification of change order costs, total standardization of classification process is not appropriate. (3) There are significant opportunities for quantifying and reducing the time involved in processing change orders.;Additions to the body of knowledge include models for classification of change orders costs, sliding scales for change order markups, a standard change order process flowchart and change order management throughout the project cycle.
