Construction and Engineering corporations around the globe are grappling with fundamental questions about how to strategically manage their businesses, what markets they should be in and how they should structure and influence the growth of their business. For many companies, mergers and acquisitions seem to be the sensible solution. But, I attempt to show that size and diversity are not necessarily problems. More often than not, the fatal flaw is not the range of businesses in the portfolio, but the lack of the proper implementation of a corporate strategy that will sustain any value added to them and by them. For this study, I have carried out case studies of; Trafalgar House PLC (former) and Kvaerner PLC.
