Abstract/Summary:
A PC based framework for an Advanced Automatic Generation Control Simulation (AAGCSIM) Workbench has been developed with a graphical front-end to facilitate easy entry of the data required by the software. This has been extensively tested under conditions of severe load changes using a modified IEEE 30 bus system with three distinct control areas.; A discussion on the conflict between regulation and economics is presented followed by the concept of an adaptive regulation factor wherein the unit regulation factors are biased by their participation factors so that it is more in tune with the unit economics. An algorithm to so bias the unit regulation factor is presented and has been implemented in the Advanced Automatic Generation Control Simulation Workbench. The results obtained using this concept are presented and a case has been made for the conclusion that biasing the unit regulation factor such that it is more in tune with the unit economics results in improved AGC performance in terms of reduced overshoots and substantially less AGC pulse reversals.
