| A technique for the direct synthesis of coaxial accelerator systems based on force profile matching was developed and a computer program implementing the technique was written. Genetic optimization techniques served as the basis for the approach. This dissertation presents the fundamentals of coaxial accelerator technology, outlines the essential theory of the new technique, and presents detailed examples and perturbation studies using the computer code developed during this research program.
