Abstract/Summary:
The work presented here deals with the design and implementation of a physical model (Induction Motor coupled with Synchronous Generator as load) for Dynamic loads which can run in conjunction with Static load model to simulate a complete power system load. The control scheme has been realized using a General Electric Series 5 PLC with ASCII/BASIC module.; Dynamic load for each hour is determined from the 24 hour load profile curve, which is available in the PLC memory. The desired torque at the motor shaft is calculated based on the total dynamic load for the hour, the torque speed characteristics of the load and the actual speed. Output signals from the PLC controls the field controller of the synchronous generator to change the field current of the generator so that the motor shaft torque is made same as desired. This process is continuously repeated throughout the simulation period.
