Abstract/Summary:
Fluid transients in pipelines caused by valve operation can be controlled in many ways as to result in avoiding column separation and lower maximum pressure in pipeline. The cheapest and the effective way to control the transient is to operate the valve in a prescribed manner for a given time of closure (tc ;The method of characteristics is used to simulate fluid transients in a pipe, and the simplex method is used to optimize the objective function.
