Abstract/Summary:
This is a case study using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for soil erosion investigation on forest lands. The modified Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) factors (rainfall, soil erodibility, slope gradient and length, and cover-management) were integrated into GIS for spatial analysis of soil erosion predictions. This result was compared to the SCS erosion hazard classification for the soil mapping units. The effect of four different digital map resolutions on prediction of soil erosion was analyzed.;The major results of this study were: that the modified USLE is not very sensitive to the landscape variation on the study site, compared with the SCS erosion classification; and the lower resolution maps provided less information, especially in the slope gradient and length factors.
