Abstract/Summary:
Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl is a classic that has been taught for many years in US Schools. However, it is a complex text to teach, and in today's school curricula, questions arise regarding what versions to use and what approaches would be most suitable and beneficial for students and teachers.;This thesis provides a comparative analysis of pedagogical approaches to examine which methods provide the most successful plan for teaching Holocaust literature and seeks a method that respects both the subject's emotional and disturbing nature and students' needs and emotional maturity. This analysis shows that historical and literary contexts can be combined into one, collaborative approach to help students form a complete view of the Holocaust. The thesis is a valuable resource on how to teach other traumatic texts on historical oppression. Tales of the Secret Annex, separate from the diary, is used as well.
