Abstract/Summary:
In recent years a perspective known as Analytical Marxism has come to the forefront of Marxist thought. This perspective considers Marxism to be a useful tradition, but one that is haunted by a number of theoretical and methodological flaws. This thesis will examine the critiques provided by Analytical Marxism and the solutions which this perspective offers. More specifically, I will examine the issue of methodology, particularly Analytical Marxism's usage of Methodological Individualism, Rational-Choice Models and Game Theory; the analysis of exploitation and class formation and the analysis of the transition from capitalism to socialism. I argue that not only is the critique of 'conventional Marxism' in error, but that Analytical Marxism is itself fundamentally flawed.
