Abstract/Summary:
The objective in this thesis is to determine to what extent the World Bank promotes sustainable development. In order to do so, we look at what ought to be done to promote sustainable development at the Bank at the level of its planning/management process and at the extent to which the Bank has done what ought to be done.;Our general conclusion is that although the institution is going in the right direction at all levels of the planning/management process, five out of the eight requirements identified for the promotion of sustainable development are only partially met. Consequently, the World Bank promotes sustainable development but this promotion is limited.
