Gene Editing Reports Research Based On Social Amplification Of Risk Framework

In recent years,gene editing technique has brought revolutionary changes to the field of life science,and is regarded as the dawn of curing human genetic diseases.The dispute over Ng Ago's repeatability and the emergence of the gene editing baby incident not only make the general public aware of the gene editing technique,but also lead it into numerous controversies of public opinion.In the social amplification of risks,mass media is the disseminator and interpreter of controversial sci-tech information,which serves as the most important risk communication bridge between experts and the public.Therefore,it is of great significance to explore the influence of media communication on public cognition and continuously improve the way of gene editing reporting in order to promote the development this technology.Taking The Paper,a representative media,as an example,this research collects its released 386 gene editing reports and their 1,248 popular comments from April 25,2015 to June 30,2020 as all research samples.Based on the Social Amplification Risk Framework(SARF),this paper adopts the content analysis method to review the information mechanism of media reports with four major risk information attributes,so as to analyze the agenda setting of The Paper;uses the degree of risk amplification and the effect of risk amplification to examine the reaction mechanism of network public opinion,where the degree of risk amplification emphasizes the dissemination situation of reports and the effect of risk amplification emphasizes the comments situation of audiences.And then,uses SPSS software to complete data analysis such as descriptive analysis,chi-square test,and linear regression,in order to conclude the characteristics and correlation between gene editing reporting information mechanism and network public opinion response mechanism.On the basis of empirical research,this paper summarizes the following existing problems of gene editing reporting: in the links of reporting information mechanism,the problems mainly lie in improper reporting strategies and journalism anomie;in terms of public response mechanism,the problems mainly reflected in the failure to meet the public's information demands and to protect the public's right to speak,which are the defects between sci-tech communication and risk communication.In view of the above mentioned problems,from the following four perspectives: enriching reporting forms,improving reporting contents,cultivating reporting talents and establishing communication mechanisms,this paper puts forward suggestions on optimizing gene editing reports,including completing report hyperlinks,increasing short video clips,enhancing the humanistic attribute of reports,concerning international sci-tech hotspots,forming correspondent teams,improving the quality of sci-tech journalists,introducing consensus meeting mode,and advocating participatory news concept,hoping to provide enlightenment to the media.
