With the increasing control of guns in various countries,law enforcement personnel,security personnel and military personnel are mainly facing sharp weapons attack.In addition,people of all areas in daily life are also facing the danger of being stabbed and cut by knives.Therefore,more attention has been paid to the research and development of stab and cut proof fabric.The existing stab proof clothes are mainly made of high-performance materials directly or impregnated with shear thickening solution or coated with nanoparticles on the surface of high-performance fabrics.The price of the stab proof clothes prepared by these methods is generally high and difficult to popularize in civil use.In this study,we designed a flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric using inorganic materials coating on conventional organic fiber fabrics.The fabrication method was low cost and simple.The main contents of this study are as follows:(1)Selection of adhesives for flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric.The flexibility and bonding effect of the fabric fabricated by four kinds of adhesives were compared through experiments,and polyacrylate was selected as the best adhesive.In addition,through quasi-static stabbing test and air permeability test,the optimum ratio of the polyacrylate and deionized water was determined as 2.5:1.(2)Comparison of the fabrication methods for the flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric.The flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant fabrics fabricated by a laying method and a hot press method respectively were characterized.The results showed that: the stab resistance,wearing performance and mechanical properties of the flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric fabricated by the laying method were better than those of the flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric prepared by the hot press method.(3)The influence of silicon carbide(Si C)particle size and coating method the stabbing performance of the flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric was investigated.The effects of Si C particle size and coating method on the stab resistance of flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and dynamic puncture tests.It can be found that the particle size of Si C has an effect on the stab resistance performance of the stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric.The performance of polyester/Si C(80mesh)material has the best stab resistance,which is superior to that of polyester/Si C(60 mesh)and polyester/Si C(100 mesh)fabric.The dynamic puncture resistance test shows that the puncture strength of the double-coated flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant material is better than that of the single-coated flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric.The reasons why the puncture strength of the stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric fabricated by double-sided single-layer coating(DSSC)is lower than that of the stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric fabricated by single-sided double-layer coating(SSDC)were analyzed.The first reason is that the stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric fabricated by DSSC has different weaknesses on both sides of polyester fabric and is easy to be pierced by bayonets;the second reason is that the Si C particles on both sides of the stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric fabricated by the DSSC method hinder the deformation energy absorption of the fabric.(4)Combination design of multi-layer composite flexible stab proof fabric.The combination design of polyester/Si C(80 mesh)and polyester/Si C(100 mesh)fabric fabricated by single-side and double-layer coating was carried out.There are 9 layers of polyester/Si C(80 mesh)and 9layers of polyester/Si C(100 mesh)in the same combination.The dynamic puncture performance of the multi-layer composite flexible stab proof fabric fabricated by four design schemes were tested.The results show that the combination of polyester/Si C(80 mesh)fabric on the upper layer is better than that of polyester/Si C(100 mesh)fabric on the upper layer in the fabrication of the multi-layer composite flexible stab proof material.To sum up,the multi-layer composite flexible stab proof material fabricated by 80/100/80 combination method has the best stab proof performance,which meets the requirements of GA68-2008 standard when its thickness is 24.099 mm.(5)Testing the cutting proof performance of flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric and preliminary analysis the stab proof and cutting-resistant mechanism.Through the ISO13997cutting-resistant performance test,the polyester/Si C(80 mesh)and polyester/Si C(100 mesh)flexible cutting-resistant fabric fabricated by SSDC coating method have excellent cutting-resistant performance and attain ISO13997 Class E.Through the comprehensive consideration of dynamic stab resistance,cutting-proof performance,wearing performance and air permeability test,it is concluded that the polyester/Si C(80 mesh)material prepared by SSDC has the best stab proof and cutting-resistant performance and wearing performance.Through the preliminary analysis of the stab proof and cutting-resistant mechanism,it is concluded that there are similarities between the stab proof mechanism and cutting-resistant mechanism,which should be considered comprehensively in the design of stab and cutting-resistant fabric.The energy dissipation modes of the flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric fabricated by six-layer SSDC coating method were analyzed.Two energy dissipation modes of the flexible stab proof and cutting-resistant fabric were obtained: one is energy dissipation through Si C particles,the other is energy dissipation through tensile deformation of the fabric.
