China is the world's largest market for coal-fired power generation and consumption.As the key technology of ultra-supercritical power generation technology,hightemperature material plays an important supporting role in promoting technological transformation and upgrading of coal power industry and sustainable development of energy security in the context of China low-carbon energy revolution.SMT is a foreign invested company in the special material industry,mainly engaged in the development and manufacturing of high-grade stainless steel,special alloy and super alloy material.Since its entry into China coal power market in 2016,SMT has achieved good performance through its excellent marketing while grasping its product technical advantages.However,after 2019,the market performance of SMT not only failed to keep growing as the strategic target,but also showed a trend of declining both revenue and profit.Therefore,it is the most important task for SMT's coal power business division to carry out a new strategy and ensure that product sales reach the expected strategic target through business innovation and business planning.Based on the internal and external environment of Chinese coal power industry on high temperature tube and pipe business,this paper discusses the development strategy of SMT in the next five years by using strategic management research method.Firstly,applying PEPST,Porter's Five Forces Model,Product Life Cycle Theory,BCG Matrix and Strategic Positioning Analysis methods to conduct systematic analysis of the macro environment,industry environment and competitive environment and identified the opportunities and threats the company facing in the future.Secondly,value chain analysis is applied to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of developing coal power business through analyzing the company's core strategic resources and capabilities.After that,the paper proposed the optimal development strategy,innovation focus and strategic priorities for coal power business of SMT in the future by using SWOT analysis and BLM strategic planning methods.The conclusion of the research is that the most important strategy priorities for SMT's coal power business in the next five years is: 1)Accelerate technology research and development to create a "trinity" business product portfolio;2)Implement Chinese production and expand international sales by using alliances and patents;3)Develop value-added services,cultivate high-end customization and full-life cycle product service market.Finally,this paper put forward the prospect and suggestions for the medium and long term development strategy for coal power tube business of SMT.
