As a tool directly using on the workpiece in the magnetic abrasive finishing,the performance of magnetic abrasive particles affect the surface quality and processing efficiency of the workpiece,which is the key to the success of the grinding process.It is difficult to grind magnetic materials and hard materials in magnetic abrasive finishing.In order to expand the application of magnetic abrasive finishing and promote the development of magnetic particle finishing industry.It is very important to prepare a new type of magnetic abrasive particles to solve the problems in the grinding process with high quality and high efficiency.The paper describes the composition and performance of magnetic abrasive particles firstly,analyzes the force of single magnetic abrasive particle in the grinding process and explores the factors affecting the grinding quality and processing efficiency in the process of magnetic abrasive particles preparation,which based on the grinding mechanism of magnetic abrasive particles.Secondly,the paper discusses the possible failure forms of magnetic abrasive particles in grinding process,and seeks the methods to delay the failure speed to prolong the service life of magnetic abrasive particles.It lays a foundation for further preparation of magnetic abrasive particles with better comprehensive properties.In this paper,the effects of several main process parameters,such as the ratio of raw materials,particle size ratio,sintering temperature,sintering time and heating rate,on the properties of c BN/Fe magnetic abrasive particles prepared by sintering method were studied.Through the comprehensive analysis of the morphology,composition,yield,grinding quality,grinding efficiency and other factors,the quality of magnetic abrasive particles was evaluated,and the optimal preparation process of c BN/Fe magnetic abrasive particles was determined.In order to explore whether the magnetic abrasive particles can meet the requirements of grinding process,the properties of c BN/Fe magnetic abrasive particles were analyzed by comparing them with Si C/Fe and Al2O3/Fe magnetic abrasive particles,which prepared by sintering process.Use vibrating sample magnetometer to measure the ferromagnetic properties of three kinds of magnetic abrasive particles.The magnetic abrasive particles with the best ferromagnetism have great ability to agglomerate into abrasive brush,and the grinding pressure applied to the workpiece is strong and the grinding efficiency is high.Three kinds of magnetic abrasive particles are used to grind magnetic materials and hard materials respectively.The surface roughness of the workpiece before and after grinding are measured by surface roughness meter.The surface micro morphology of the workpiece before and after grinding are observed by 3D super field microscope to measure the processing quality,and the grinding performance of magnetic abrasive particles is compared.In order to better assist the grinding process,the grinding efficiency of magnetic abrasive is tested.The performance of c BN/Fe magnetic abrasive particles is comprehensively evaluated,and it is verified that it can be used as excellent grinding medium in magnetic abrasive finishing.
