As a new type of natural gas resource with great development value, shale gas is of great significance for optimizing energy consumption structure. To achieve long-term and efficient use of shale gas resources,it must be based on the development and progress of the shale gas industry. The control of shale gas industry risk determines the quality and speed of industrial development. Therefore, mastering the risk status of the shale gas industry will help to achieve safe and efficient development of the industry. This study uses the analysis of the characteristics of the shale gas industry, defining the risk of shale gas industry as a whole industry chain risk based on the overall perspective, drawing on the experience of experts and existing research, and referencing to the actual development of the shale gas industry to select the corresponding indicators.A comprehensive evaluation index system for evaluating shale gas industry risk is determined to use a pressure-state-response(PSR)model.The entropy method and the coefficient of variation method are used to determine the single weight. Then, the combined weighting theory is used to combine the two objective weighting methods to determine the comprehensive weight of the indicator. The application scope of the combination weighting method is expanded, which further reduces the influence of human subjective judgment and enhances the accuracy of the result.Combining the PSR model with the improved matter element extension theory and introduce it into the risk assessment of the shale gas industry.Based on this,an improved matter-element extension model for evaluating the risk of shale gas industry is constructed. The reasoning characteristics of the model are used to evaluate the nature and extent of shale gas industry risks from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives.Taking Sichuan and Chongqing as the representative regions, the risk status of the shale gas industry in the two regions is assessed and analyzed.Further,to judge and understand the risk situation of the Chinese shale gas industry. The results show that: The risk status of the shale gas industry in Chongqing is at a critical risk level and has a tendency to be biased towards a critical risk level. On the whole,it tends to be more intermediate in low risk and critical risk. The risk situation of shale gas industry in Sichuan Province is also at the critical risk level, and it has a tendency to approach the high risk level, but the bias trend is less obvious. It can be seen that the shale gas industry in China still needs to be developed, and its control over the risk situation needs to be optimized and improved. This study provides a unique entry point for assessing the risks and impacts of the shale gas industry. The findings provide a reference for developing more effective measures and policies to mitigate the risks of the shale gas industry.
