Toys can not only develop children’s imagination and enrich scientific knowledge,but also cultivate the qualities of cooperation,honesty,and courage in children’s practical activities.Therefore,toys affect all aspects of children’s development and play an important role in assisting children’s growth.However,in the current market environment,the homogeneity of children’s toys is serious,and there are very few toys that cultivate children’s emotions.Montage theory matured in the field of film,and then gradually applied to the design fields of architecture,graphic,interior,and products.Research shows that montage theory has many similarities with product design thinking and design techniques,and montage theory contains rich emotional connotations.Therefore,this article combines the characteristics of children’s toy design and the connotation of montage theory to seek new design methods for children’s toy design reference.This article firstly analyzes the development process of montage theory and the connotation of montage theory through literature research method,comparative analysis method,interdisciplinary research method,and questionnaire survey method,and divides montage theory into two aspects: montage thinking and montage narrative methods.Analyze and summarize the application of montage theory in ancient Chinese literature,graphic design,interior design,architectural design,product design and other literary and artistic fields in combination with corresponding cases,and provide for the application of montage theory in children’s toy design below Method reference.Then it analyzes and studies the definition of children’s toys,the existing problems of children’s toys,the growth characteristics of children aged 3-12,and the existing design methods of children’s toys.The broad and narrow definitions of children’s toys are introduced,and the existing children’s toys are summarized.The existing shortcomings demonstrate the importance of reflective learning in the cultivation of children’s personality;then combined with the montage theory,it introduces the application of montage theory in the existing children’s toys,and demonstrates the rationality of the montage theory in the design of children’s toys.Then,based on the previous research,the method of applying montage theory in the design of children’s toys is put forward,and the narrative and ideographic characteristics of montage are used to integrate the functions of recording stories and expressing emotions into the design of children’s toys,helping children to understand themselves objectively and grow up healthy.Finally,through the design practice of children’s personality cultivation toys,the feasibility of applying the montage theory in the design of children’s toys is demonstrated.Montage theory integrates emotional factors into the design of children’s toys,and guides all aspects of children’s toy design,including design concepts,product performance and emotional expression,and provides new method references for children’s toy design.The montage thinking and montage narrative techniques contained in the montage theory have rich connotations,which can seek new ideas for the design of children’s growth toys,and are innovative.
