With the continuous advancement of science and technology and the cumulatively social activities in recent years, human beings have been facing the increasingly frequent occurrence of all kinds of emergencies in the world while sharing social civilization brought by scientific & technological achievements.Especially in recent years, since emergency accidents occurring in China's coal mines are frequently reported, coal mine accidents has become a hot topic for international discussion in the industrial and academic circles. After the occurrence of coal mine disasters, mine rescue workers need to immediately engage in emergency response tasks in the shortest time. However, due to the unpredictability of the accident cause and the onsite work environment, mine rescue workers need to bear greater psychological pressure and emotional stimulation, thereby resulting in psychological stress reactions.Additionally, mine rescue workers have their own characteristics in terms of job characteristics that are obviously different from those in traditional industries, such as boring and poor working environment, higher work intensity and pressure, higher workload and skill requirements, overt work-family conflicts, all of which can lead to a significant increase in psychological stress and job burnout of rescue team members, further resulting in a drastic drop in their efficiency, psychological stress problems are subsequently widespread in mine rescue teams. However, the problem of job burnout caused by psychological stress is often overlooked by managers and mine rescue workers, the instability of psychological stress is just one of the reasons that affect work performance & rescue effect, and cause safety accidents.Hence, exploring the influence of job characteristics on job burnout in the context of mine rescue workers can enhance managers' awareness of the importance of employees' psychological stress and job burnout. The related conclusions obtained in the study can provide decision-making references for managers in terms of intervention in employees' job burnout, emotional stress management, mental health counseling, etc. In order to solve the problems mentioned above, based on the related conclusions about the relationship between job characteristics and job burnout, combining the Job Demand-Resource(JD-R)model and emotion regulation theory, the dimension of job characteristics of mine rescue workers under the background of Chinese culture through interview analysis was analyzed, then the concept model of job characteristics of mine rescue workers, emotion regulation strategies, extraverted personality traits and job burnout was built and the detailed hypotheses were proposed.Laslty, based on the survey data from a questionnaire collected from 338 mine rescue workers of 6 mine rescue teams, the rationality of the proposed concept model and the correctness of the hypotheses were empirically verified by employing the tools of SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 17.0,as well as multiple regression analysis. The highlight of innovation and main conclusions of this paper are drawn as below:(1)The direct effect mechanisms of job demands job resources and on job burnout was explored, respectively. The results show that, job demands have a significantly positive effect on job burnout of mine rescue workers.Job demands have a significantly positive effect on emotional exhaustion,we also find that the higher level of job demands can significantly affect the emotional exhaustion of front-line rescue workers.Further more, job demands have a significantly positive effect on depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment;Job resources have a significantly negatively effect on job burnout of mine rescue workers.Namely, job resource of mine rescue workers has a significant and negative relationship with the 3 dimensions of job burnout(emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment)respectively.(2)The mediating role of expressive suppression strategy in the loss-path associated with job demands was discussed. Results demonstrate that, higher level of job requirements not only affect job burnout through the loss-path associated with work pressure, but also can make mine rescue workers to use the expressive suppression strategy to regulate their own emotions.Expressive suppression plays a fully mediating role between job demands and emotional exhaustion. However, this role does not exist in the relationship of job demands and depersonalization, job demands and reduced personal accomplishment.(3)The mediating role of cognitive reappraisal strategy in the gain-path associated with job resources was studied. Our findings reveal that, the increase of job resources not only reduces job burnout through the gain-path associated with work motivation, but also encourages mine rescue workers to adopt the cognitive reappraisal strategy to adjust their emotions actively.Cognitive reappraisal plays a fully mediating role in the negative relationships between job resources and emotional exhaustion, job resources and reduced personal accomplishment, respectively. But this effect disappears between job resources and depersonalization.(4)The moderating effect of extrovert personality traits was researched. Results show that, extrovert personality traits negatively moderate the positive impact of job demands on expressive suppression, while positively moderate the positive impact of job resources on cognitive reappraisal. In addition, the higher the extrovert personality of mine rescue workers, the stronger the mediating roles of cognitive reappraisal in the relationships between job resources and emotional exhaustion, job resources and reduced personal accomplishment. However, the influence of job demands on the emotional exhaustion through the expressive suppression strategy adopted by mine rescue workers is weakened under the higher extraversion personality.
