In the process of production and processing, cotton fiber has direct contact with the surface of metal parts, long time friction will cause the wear of metal surface, affect the service life and work quality of metal parts. Therefore, this topic focuses on the cotton fiber friction problems involved in the processing of cotton products.Through the establishment of mechanical contact model, the theoretical contact area between materials of friction pair is calculated to achieve the prediction of friction force in the later period. To verify the correctness of the model,a self-made capstan friction experimental device was used to simulate the friction behavior during the machining process. In order to reveal the friction mechanism in the process of cotton fiber processing, the aim is to establish a method to explore the friction behavior between cotton fiber and rough surface through quantitative calculation, realize the prediction of friction before processing, and provide some guidance for the study of friction behavior of cotton fiber.Firstly, the friction behavior between cotton fiber and metal in the process of processing was investigated. The experimental simulation was carried out from four aspects: preloading tension, roughness of friction roller, rotation speed of friction roller and fiber bundle Angle. It is found that the pretension is positively correlated with friction and negatively correlated with friction coefficient. The friction rate only has an effect on the number of periods for the system to reach stability, but has a small effect on the friction behavior. When the friction rate is small, the system needs a longer period to reach stability. As the envelope Angle increases, the friction force increases, the friction coefficient changes little, and the smaller the envelope Angle, the more obvious the shock.Compared with friction rate and envelope Angle, roughness and pretension have greater influence on the friction and wear behavior of cotton bundle and metal surface.Secondly,to explore the interaction between cotton fibers during processing.A mechanical model of linear contact between cotton fibers was established and simulated experiment was carried out.The results show that the friction coefficient between cotton fibers is less affected by load, rotational speed and wrapping Angle, and the friction increases with the increase of contact area, but with the increase of contact time, the fatigue damage caused by friction and the accumulation of wear degree between fibers, the friction coefficient will decrease. The friction has little effect on the friction and friction coefficient when the friction system is stable. Finally, the adhesion contact area between cotton fiber and metal under a given load was calculated. The results show that the influence of adhesion on contact area decreases with the increase of normal load.
