China has proposed the “Belt and Road”.Under this initiative,China has deepened cooperation with other countries in the world, especially in agriculture. In order to improve the international competitiveness of their own agriculture, all countries strictly control and manage the quality of their agricultural products. In China,in order to better implement the “going out” strategy of “One Belt,One Road”,most companies have adopted the “company + farmer” cooperation model to improve the quality and performance of agricultural products. This model is also called order farming.Under this model, the farmers are responsible for agricultural production. The company is responsible for processing and selling the agricultural products produced by the farmers. In addition, the company will provide pre-and mid-production support for the farmers.Order farming can not only provide the company with a stable source of agricultural products, but also enable the company to guarantee the quality of agricultural products at the initial stage of production. However, the development of contract farming in China is not satisfactory. The most fundamental reason is that supply chain integration has not been achieved in the cooperation between the company and farmers.Supply chain integration is an important strategic entry to improve the performance of the alliance. It can improve the information sharing between the company and the farmers, improve internal process coordination, respond quickly to changes in the agricultural product market, and help Chinese agricultural enterprises to “go out” better..Then,in the "company + farmer" cooperation model, what factors are affecting the supply chain integration? Under the influence of these factors, how does supply chain integration affect alliance performance? In the dual perspective of the company and the farmers, are there any differences in these impact relationships?Based on transaction cost theory and resource dependence theory, this study constructs a model of “environmental uncertainty – dependence – supply chain integration – alliance performance”,and studies environmental uncertainty and supply chain integration from the perspective of companies and farmers. The relationship between two dimensions(information sharing, process coordination),the relationship between supply chain integration and the three dimensions of alliance performance(increased income, cost reduction, quality improvement)and the adjustment between dependence on environmental uncertainty and supply chain integration. This study used a questionnaire survey to survey184 companies and 414 farmers in Hainan and Guangdong provinces in China, collecting data from both farmers and companies, using statistical analysis software SPSS17.0 and Smart PLS2.0.Conduct reliability, validity test, correlation analysis and regulation analysis, and then empirically test the conceptual model and research hypothesis of this study. The results show that:(1)Under the two perspectives of the company and the farmers, environmental uncertainty has a significant positive effect on information sharing.(2)Under the dual perspective of the company and the farmers, information sharing also has a significant positive effect on process coordination.(3)However,the two dimensions of supply chain integration(information sharing and process coordination)have different effects on the three dimensions of alliance performance(increased revenue, reduced cost, improved quality). From the perspective of the company, information sharing does not have a significant positive effect on the three dimensions of alliance performance, and process coordination has a significant positive effect on the three dimensions of alliance performance. From the perspective of farmers, information sharing has a significant positive effect on income increase and cost reduction, and does not have a significant positive effect on quality improvement;and process coordination has a significant positive effect on the three dimensions of alliance performance.(4)Depending on the company and the farmer’s perspective, the role of regulation between environmental uncertainty and information sharing is different. From the perspective of the company, the dependence does not have a significant positive adjustment effect on environmental uncertainty and information sharing. From the perspective of farmers, relying on environmental uncertainty and information sharing has a significant negative adjustment effect. The theoretical contributions of this paper are mainly as follows:(1)This study demonstrates the relationship between environmental uncertainty, dependence, supply chain integration and alliance performance through bilateral perspectives, enriching transaction cost theory and resource dependence theory.(2)Empirically explored the relationship between environmental uncertainty and supply chain integration, and made up for the differences in previous research.(3)This paper uses a dual perspective to provide new evidence for the divergence of supply chain integration on the conclusions of alliance performance, and also enriches the literature on supply chain integration. This study also provides different management implications for agribusiness and farmers. For managers:(1)When the environmental uncertainty is high, the enterprise manager can reduce the risk through information sharing.(2)It is necessary to pay attention to process coordination and adjust and upgrade internal production processes.Refine and standardize the production process, ensure quality from the initial stage of agricultural production, improve efficiency during processing, and increase the overall competitiveness of agricultural products.(3)In addition to the importance of process coordination, the company must also pay attention to the information sharing between the company and the farmers. The company communicates advanced technology methods and the latest market trends to the farmers’ offices, helping farmers to produce quality agricultural products that are marketable and improving their overall performance. For farmers:(1)Farmers must actively share information with the company, increase the frequency and content of communication, and actively integrate into the channels provided by the company.(2)It is necessary to pay attention to process coordination, actively learn new technical equipment operation methods and operational procedures, improve their own quality, and improve labor productivity.(3)It must be realized that in addition to promoting income increase and reducing costs, information sharing can also indirectly promote process coordination and improve the quality of agricultural products.Farmers can use advanced communication software such as We Chat,QQ,etc.Real-time reflection of production;timely resolution when problems are encountered;discussion of new discoveries in the production process to increase productivity.(4)It is necessary to improve its own cultural level and ability to operate new equipment, independently research new production methods, and reducedependence on the company. |
