| Air pollution has gradually become an important factor affecting the physical and mental health of residents. The negative effects of air pollution have also received more and more attention.People have generally recognized that air pollution will adversely affect the health of residents.A large number of epidemiology Studies have also confirmed that there is a correlation between air pollution and the incidence of cardiovascular, respiratory, and pulmonary inflammation in residents. However, whether air pollution also affects mental health has not attracted enough attention.A good psychological state is a prerequisite for the active and healthy life of residents. In recent years, the increase in the prevalence of depression and mental illness has also shown that the mental health of residents in China is not optimistic. Therefore,it is identified whether air pollution will cause residents’ mental health. The impact will have some practical significance. This dissertation uses 2010 and 2014 Chinese Household Dynamic Tracking Survey(CFPS)data and based on quasi-natural experiments on winter central heating policies in northern China, using breakpoint regression methods to estimate the impact of air pollution on the mental health of Chinese residents. The study found that:(1)Air pollution has a significant negative effect on residents’ mental health.By changing air pollution indicators, considering four different pollutants, similar conclusions were reached.(2)The negative effects of air pollution on mental health are heterogeneous for different populations, and the damage to the mental health of provincial capital city residents, residents with lower education levels, and female residents is particularly obvious.(3)Through the analysis of depression symptoms on the CES-D scale,it is found that air pollution is more likely to cause people’s emotional depression, indicating that air pollution can not only affect people’s physical health and thereby affect psychological conditions, but also directly affect personal emotions and render people Generate negative emotions such as anxiety and restlessness to damage mental health. |
