Many urban centers are developed around rivers. With the commercial value of urban river landscape being excavated and defined, the attention to aesthetics and the realistic requirement of environmental remediation,"ecological restoration" has become the key word in the development and construction of urban rivers in the past 20 years, and many cities have made useful explorations around this theme. The diversity of river forms is a major focus of urban river ecological restoration. However, the lack of regular and fixed monitoring and analysis of the restored river ecosystem after its completion makes people lack of understanding of the relationship between the restoration measures and ecological and environmental factors, which restricts further urban river ecological construction. In this study,a river section with three different river forms in the upper reaches of the Taiyuan city section of the Fen River was tested for multiple physical and chemical properties of river water, bank soil and bottom mud,and soil heavy metal content,Using Excel and SPSS to analyze the data, quantitatively clarify the differences in the water and soil environment related properties of each river section under different river forms. The results are as follows:(1)From the perspective of river morphology, different river morphologies have a certain influence on the water quality of river. The water quality of the three river morphologies is best in straight type, followed by tiller type, and worst in curved type. From the sampling period, the indicators of river water quality during the dry season of each river form were inferior to those of the flat season.(2)Tillered river sections are most conducive to the improvement of riparian soil and sediment properties, followed by straight ones, and curved river sections lack soil environment, which is most detrimental to the improvement of river ecological diversity.(3)The soil is less polluted by heavy metals in the straight river form, while the more variable river bank form and more convenient visitor accessibility in the branched river section are more susceptible to external pollution.(4)In the future river morphology restoration and reconstruction projects, straight and tillered restoration forms can be preferentially selected, which is more conducive to the restoration of river habitats and the establishment of river basin ecological diversity.(5)The lack of necessary landscape facilities and planning of tourist activities in the study section of the river leads to the fact that land on both sides of the river and the river water and sediments near the river are susceptible to external pollution, which caused some interference to the river’s own biological activities and environmental purification. In the future construction, manual maintenance and management should be strengthened to create a place where people and nature live in harmony.
