Because of the characteristics and models of the development of resource-based cities,a series of urban problems such as ecological environment deterioration,population loss and low public service capacity have arisen in many cities.In the face of the lack of human settlements,this paper,based on the four types of resource-based cities at different development stages defined in the Plan promulgated by the State Council,takes 115 prefecture-level administrative regions as the basic research unit,integrates the theoretical connotation of the current research on resource-based cities and human settlements,analyzes the spatial development characteristics of resource-based cities in China from the perspective of sustainable development,and explores the coupling and coordination relationship between urban internal systems.The research is expected to provide decision-making reference for the construction and development of human settlements in resource-based cities.The results of this study are as follows:(1)The overall system of resource-based cities in China has developed in a relatively balanced manner,among which the advantages of natural systems are more prominent and the average of residential systems are generally lower,which needs to be improved.In different stages of urban development,the construction of growing and declining cities is relatively weak,the development of mature cities is relatively stable,and the development of renewable cities is superior.(2)The comprehensive value of human settlements in resource-based cities in China has obvious spatial differentiation characteristics,showing the development pattern of "high median value,low bilateral value" and "strong east and weak west" in space.Among them,the number of cities in the high value area is less,mainly distributed in the central region of China,and the spatial distribution of cities in the high value area is discontinuous;the spatial distribution of cities in the high value area is scattered;the median area is more distributed in the central area;the cities with lower comprehensive index are most distributed in the western area,and the spatial distribution is mainly stripe;the low value area is in the "northeast" and "southwest" area.(3)All systems in the residential environment of China’s resource-based cities show different distribution trends,and all show the characteristics of spatial heterogeneity;in the estimation of system sustainability,the social system has the best sustainable development capability,the human system and the natural system take the second place,the sustainable development measurement value of the supporting system is relatively low,and the negative factor of the residential system is higher than the positive factor,and the residential system is in the state of unsustainable development.(4)Explore the degree of interaction between the functions of urban systems by calculating the coupled coordination degree of China’s resource-based urban systems.Among them,the minor imbalance is mainly located in Northeast China,and most of the cities are resource declining cities.But the most cities are near and coordinated,and the types of cities are mainly growing and mature cities.
