Assessing The Natural Suitability Of Human Settlements(SAHS) In Jiangxi Province

The human settlement environment is the foundation of human survival and development,and fundamentally restricts the concentration level and distribution pattern of the regional population.Scientific evaluation of the natural suitability of human settlement environment can quantitatively reveal the human settlement environment status and regional population distribution pattern under the influence of natural geographical factors,and objectively understand the suitability of human settlement environment in Jiangxi Province,which is of great significance to its ecological civilization construction and rational population distribution.This paper takes 30m×30m as the basic research unit,selects natural factors such as terrain,climate,hydrology,and vegetation that represent the natural background conditions of the regional human settlement environment,the single-factor models of human settlement environment including topographic undulation,temperature and humidity index,hydrological index and ground cover index were established respectively.On this basis,the BP neural network model is used to determine the weight of each individual index,and a comprehensive evaluation model of the natural suitability of the human settlement environment in Jiangxi Province is constructed.From single element to multi-element,from classification to synthesis,The background condition of human settlement environment in Jiangxi Province was systematically evaluated The main conclusions include:(1)According to the single factor evaluation result,in terms of topographic conditions,the proportion of land area in Jiangxi Province with highly suitable,relatively suitable,general suitable and critical suitable regions are 19.82%,56.61%,21.24% and 2.33% respectively,about 98% of the population of Jiangxi Province is distributed in highly suitable and relatively suitable areas of terrain;in terms of climatic conditions,the proportion of land area in Jiangxi Province with highly suitable,relatively suitable and generally suitable regions are 11.65%,80.47% and7.88%,respectively,about 83% of the population of Jiangxi Province is distributed in relatively suitable areas of climate;In terms of hydrological conditions,the proportion of land area in Jiangxi Province with highly suitable,relatively suitable,generally suitable and unsuitable regions are 44.23%,39.06%,9.93% and 6.78%,respectively,about 99% of the population in Jiangxi Province is distributed in highly suitable and relatively suitable areas of hydrology;in terms of land cover conditions,the proportions of land cover in highly suitable,relatively suitable,generally suitable,critical suitable and unsuitable areas were 26.93%,64.17%,4.86%,0.23% and 3.79%,respectively,about 88% of the population of Jiangxi province is distributed in highly suitable and suitable areas of land cover.(2)According to the results of comprehensive evaluation of human settlement environment suitability,the natural suitability degree of human settlement environment in Jiangxi Province is low in the east,west and south,and high in the middle and north,and its spatial distribution is U-shaped.Jiangxi province has a high degree of suitability for human settlement environment.Nearly 93.94% of the areas are suitable for human settlement environment.The proportion of land area in highly suitable,relatively suitable and generally suitable areas is 12.21%,44.85% and36.88% respectively,and the proportion of land area in critical and unsuitable areas is2.35% and 3.71% respectively.(3)From the coupling relationship between the natural suitability of human settlement environment and population distribution,the population distribution of Jiangxi Province has a high degree of matching with the suitability of the human settlement environment.About 99% of the population is distributed in the suitable areas of human settlement environment,and less than 1% of the population is distributed in the critical suitable areas of human settlement environment.However,it can be seen that nearly 14% of the population is distributed in generally suitable areas,most of which are mountainous areas on the edge of Jiangxi Province,and the natural environment conditions of human settlements are general.In other words,as far as the areas with highly suitable or relatively suitable human settlements are concerned,there is still a great room for improvement in the existing population scale and population absorption capacity.
