The Characteristics Of Cavalry Armor In The Yuan Dynasty And Its Comparison With The Song Dynasty

Armor,as an important protective military clothing,plays an important role in ancient wars.It is the main protective equipment in the war.The actual need to resist injury was the direct driving force for the development of armor.Many exquisite armors had been unearthed in Chinese history.Throughout the history of the Yuan Dynasty,the war has run through it almost all the time.According to the literature,the Yuan Dynasty army continued to expand its territory,and the Mongolian army frightened their enemies.The victory of the war made the Mongol Empire gradually stronger.Study the reasons for its victory in the war,the armor of the army plays an important role in the war.During this period,the armor was influenced by the nomadic culture of the nation and was improved on the basis of the previous dynasty.In this period,cavalry was the main combat force,and there were strict divisions between light and heavy cavalry.To study the cavalry armor of this period,we must first distinguish between light and heavy cavalry,and then systematically explore the characteristics of the armor in this period.This article is mainly divided into five chapters:The first chapter is the study of its three characteristics.The research on armor must involve the study of its three characteristics: material,shape,and connection method.This chapter analyzes the development history of armor to understand the changes of the three characteristics and explore the relationship between them.Have a preliminary understanding of armor and lay the foundation for subsequent research.The second chapter studies the armor of the Yuan Dynasty,mainly understand the types of armor in this period,and give a detailed introduction to the armor of light and heavy cavalry.This chapter will also briefly introduce horse armor.Through the comparison of light and heavy cavalry armors,analyze the similarities and differences between light and heavy cavalry armor.Discuss the reasons that influenced the armor changes in this period,and demonstrate that the armor was an important reason for the victory of the war in the Yuan Dynasty.The third chapter introduces the production process of armor during the Yuan Dynasty.Including material selection and reasons,plan for armor making,related treatment of nail slices and tools for armor making.This chapter gives us a more comprehensive understanding of armor in the Yuan dynasty,learning more from making armor.Based on a certain understanding of the armor in the Song Dynasty,the fourth chapter compares the armor of the Song Dynasty with the armor of the Yuan Dynasty,studies the differences and finds out the reasons.There are many factors that affect armor changes,the fundamental reason is the pursuit of practical improvement.The fifth chapter is a summary.Through the previous analysis,starting from the armor,put forward my own views on the reasons why the army was able to win most wars in this period.And demonstrate that the change of armor is mainly related to practical requirements.In the end,two conclusions were reached: the improvement of the cavalry armor during the Yuan Dynasty was an important reason for the war to be able to win;the changes to the armor were all to adapt to the characteristics of each dynasty,to adapt to the changes in weapons,arms,and combat methods,and to pursue higher practicality.Through the horizontal comparison of light and heavy cavalry in the Yuan Dynasty and the vertical comparison with the Song dynasty,this article study the advantages of war and the characteristics of armor during the Yuan Dynasty.This article mainly draws on Wang Guowei’s "Dual Evidence Method",based on the unearthed examples-"Underground Material Found" and related documents and previous scholars published papers-"Materials On Paper" mutual interpretation of evidence,to study armor during the Yuan Dynasty.The research on the armors of the Yuan army shows that the armors of light and heavy cavalry in the Yuan Dynasty had different requirements for protection and flexibility,and they focused on different aspects.The pursuit of a balance between the two maximized the advantages of the armor.In addition,the armor-making process during this period was complete,and there were strict regulations on armor manufacturing,ranging from the overall armor design to the treatment of a single piece of armor,requiring rigorous treatment by craftsmen.
