Research On The Impact Of Equipment Manufacturing Agglomeration On Environmental Efficiency

With more than 40 years of reform and opening up,the agglomeration of equipment manufacturing industry is increasingly evident and become a key force to promote industrial development.However,the negative externalities caused by agglomeration lead to more and more serious pollution,and the mode of economic development needs to be changed urgently.If faced with the choice of "planting trees to protect the environment or cutting down trees to develop the economy",environmental efficiency is the breakthrough point to achieve the harmonious development of economic growth and environmental protection.Therefore,a deep understanding of the possible impact of equipment manufacturing agglomeration on environmental efficiency is conducive to easing the conflict between China’s current economic benefits and environmental benefits,and has positive practical significance for the great vision of building a beautiful China.This paper takes the impact of equipment manufacturing agglomeration on environmental efficiency as the research topic and analyzes the deep connections between them from both theoretical and empirical perspectives.From the theoretical perspective,the direct path of environmental efficiency in the initial,middle and late stages of equipment manufacturing agglomeration is analyzed by combining the life cycle theory and the two effects brought by agglomeration externalities.Secondly,the direct action of equipment manufacturing agglomeration on environmental efficiency under the path of foreign direct investment and environmental regulation are discussed according to the heaven effect of pollution,halo effect of pollution,innovation compensation effect and compliance cost effect.From the empirical perspective,firstly,the agglomeration degree and environmental efficiency level of equipment manufacturing industry were estimated by using location entropy and SBM-DEA model considering relaxation,and the specific current situation and development trend of the agglomeration and environmental efficiency of equipment manufacturing industry in China were analyzed from the view of space-time.Then by building a dynamic panel model empirical analysis on the national and subregional samples directly effects the efficiency of the equipment manufacturing industry cluster for the environment,secondly introduced the equipment manufacturing industry agglomeration and foreign direct investment(or environmental regulation)interaction,trying to determine the above two variables in the equipment manufacturing industry agglomeration efficiency of indirect effects to the environment whether play a role in the path.Finally,based on the above regression results,respectively variables environmental regulation and foreign direct investment into the research system,the building contains the equipment manufacturing industry agglomeration as the explained variable,environmental efficiency to be explained variable,foreign direct investment(or environmental regulation)as threshold and other control variables,the panel threshold model,further analysis of the equipment manufacturing industry agglomeration efficiency of indirect effects on the environment.From the perspective of sub-regional samples,it is consistent with the regression results of national samples.The effects of equipment manufacturing agglomeration on environmental efficiency in the central and western areas are firstly inhibited,then promoted and inhibited,while the effects of equipment manufacturing agglomeration on environmental efficiency in the eastern region are firstly promoted,then inhibited and promoted.According to threshold regression results found that:due to the difference of foreign direct investment level of the equipment manufacturing industry agglomeration efficiency is double threshold effect to the environment,embodied in "no significant negative effects-not significant positive-significantly negative effect",due to the difference of the intensity of environmental regulation efficiency of the equipment manufacturing industry cluster on the environment there is a single threshold effect,embodied in the "no significant negative effects-significantly negative effect".According to the regression results,some suggestions for reference are put forward in the following aspects:scientific planning of agglomeration scale,formulation of regional differentiation strategy,adherence to environmental protection and parallel investment,and timely adjustment of development policies.
