Evaluation And Comparative Study On Safety Climate Of Construction Projects In China

Safety climate has become a very effective perspective to evaluate the status of safety management of construction projects and improve the level of safety management.The existing research is mainly carried out for a region or a specific type of project,and the results are not convincing enough.This paper compares the safety climate of large-scale and small-scale projects,Chinese and overseas construction projects,and uses multiple research methods to verify each other,to achieve four main research objectives:(1)identify the key evaluation indicators of safety climate of construction projects;(2)evaluate the basic level of safety climate of construction projects in China;(3)compare the differences of safety climate between large-scale and small-scale construction projects;(4)compare the differences of safety climate between Chinese and overseas construction project.This paper is divided into seven chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the research background of this paper,determines the research objectives and contents,and selects the appropriate and feasible research methods.The second chapter is the related theoretical analysis,using the literature review method to comprehensively identify the research results of safety climate,sort out and summarize the role of safety climate,research methods and scale structure of safety climate,and determine the dimensions and scale of safety climate of construction projects.The third chapter is the empirical investigation process of project safety climate.This section introduces the design of the questionnaire,the distribution and collection of the questionnaire,and the basic statistical results of the questionnaire survey.In addition,it expounds the design and basic process of the interview.The fourth chapter is the overall evaluation and difference analysis of the safety climate level of construction projects in China.The fifth chapter is a detailed comparison and difference analysis of the safety climate of large-scale and small-scale construction projects in China.The sixth chapter is the comparison of the safety climate of Chinese and overseas construction projects.Taking the construction industry of China,Australia and Indonesia as examples,the level of safety climate is compared and analyzed.The seventh chapter is the conclusion and research directions,summarizes the conclusion and limitations of the paper,and puts forward the future research directions.Based on the systematic literature review,320 questionnaires were distributed in this study,with 216 valid samples.Combined with the interviews with 10 construction professionals,the findings are as follows:(1)Six dimensions and 60 detailed indicators suitable for safety climate evaluation of construction projects in China are determined.(2)The results show that in the six dimensions,the performance level of leader’s attention and support to safety issues(5.39)is the highest(5.39),while the performance level of safety management regulations and processes is the lowest(4.87);while among the 60 indicators,the respondents believe that the project manager attaches great importance to safety,and colleagues can remind each other of safety;on the contrary,the problems include: the safety communication from leaders is insufficient,the requirements of leaders are greater than the safety regulations,and the employees do not fully understand the safety regulations.(3)The results indicate that among all the dimensions and indicators,large-scale projects are better than small-scale projects in terms of the level of safety climate.Among them,leaders’ attention and support to safety is the most obvious,while the perception of the probability of safety accidents is the most significant.(4)The results show that Chinese construction projects have achieved the highest level of safety climate among the three countries,followed by Indonesia and Australia.However,for specific dimensions and indicators,each country has its own advantages.Through empirical analysis,this study evaluates and compares the safety climate of construction projects in China.This paper summarizes the current situation,characteristics,advantages and disadvantages of the safety climate of the Chinese construction projects,to provide reference for improving the safety management level of construction projects and improving the safety climate.
