| As the global warming continues to aggravate, reducing greenhouse gas emissions has become a consensus of human society. As a significant industry of the national economy, the construction industry has the feature of strong industrial correlation, low resource utilization rate and large carbon emissions.Facing the national low-carbon development strategy,it is essential for the construction industry to carry out energy conservation and emission reduction. The development of the construction industry in different areas varies greatly, therefore,it is of significance to accurately measure the opportunity cost of energy saving and emission reduction of the construction industry, clarify the difference of the marginal abatement cost of the construction industry in different regions, and formulate corresponding emission reduction strategies according to the difference of the marginal abatement cost of the industry between regions.Based on the development status of the construction industry in China, this paper takes the marginal abatement cost of the construction sector as the object of this study, applies the spatial interaction effects throughout the whole study, and explores the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics and the mechanism of the influencing factors of the marginal abatement cost of the construction industry in China.Firstly,a quadratic directional output distance function based on meta-frontier is constructed to measure the spatial distribution characteristics and variation of the marginal abatement cost of the construction industry at the national, regional and provincial levels.Secondly, the spatial dependence and spatial correlation of the marginal abatement cost are clarified by spatial correlation analysis method.Third,a spatial econometrics model is implemented to detect the mechanism of different driving forces on the marginal abatement cost of the construction industry. The main conclusions including: The marginal abatement cost of the construction industry in China increases gradually, and the economic cost of energy conservation and emission reduction in the industry is increasing. At the same time, there are significant differences in marginal abatement costs among regions, and the potential of carbon trading market in this industry is promising. From the perspective of spatial correlation, there is a significant positive spatial correlation between the marginal abatement cost of construction industry of different region in China. The regions with higher marginal abatement cost are mostly concentrated in the eastern region, while the provinces with lower marginal abatement cost are mostly located in the central and western regions. As the distance of the research units approaches, the interregional interaction and spillover effect becomes obvious, and the marginal abatement cost in the construction industry presents a strong spatial dependence. From a national perspective, urbanization level, economic development level, air quality and marketization level are important factors affecting the marginal abatement cost of the construction industry, while technological development level and energy intensity exert no obvious influence on the marginal abatement cost.Considering the spatial interaction, energy intensity and economic development level have a driving effect on the marginal abatement cost in the surrounding areas, while urbanization level and air quality inhibit the increase of the marginal abatement cost in the surrounding areas. From the eastern to the western region of China, the impact of urbanization level on the marginal abatement cost of the construction industry is gradually weakened, while the effect of air quality is enhanced;the economic development level and technological development level have a positive effect on the marginal abatement cost in the central region, yet exert no obvious impact on the eastern and western regions;the marketization level and energy intensity exert no significant influence on the central region, yet have significant influence on the eastern and western regions. |
