In the process of industrialization and urbanization in China,the construction industry has been a pillar industry of the national economy over a long period of time,and has made great contribution to the development of economy and society.However,the construction industry is a typical ‘high impact,high emission' industry,although its energy consumption has been relatively small,but the building materials(cement,steel)has leaded huge amounts of carbon emissions,which has been ignored by researchers.At the meantime,the national carbon trading market is going to be established,the differential pricing is difficult.In this context,the study for carbon emission performance and marginal abatement cost of construction industry in China's provinces,is significant for carbon emission reduction and sustainable development,and provides a reference for the pricing of carbon trading market.Using the global generalized directional distance function,to calculate the carbon emission performance of construction industry in China's provinces during 2004 to 2014;the dynamic change of carbon emission performance is indicated by the Global-Malmquist-Luenberger index;and testing the convergence properties of the regional construction industry carbon emission performance;finally,using non-parametric shadow price model to calculate the shadow prices of carbon emission.The conclusions are as follows:The carbon emission performance of construction industry is highest in the Western Zone,is medium-level in the Middle Zone,is lowest in the East Zone.Considering the eight regions,the Southwest Area and the Northwest Area are highest and the Middle reaches of Yangtze River is lowest.In 2004~2014,the carbon emission performance of construction industry showed a downward trend,especially in 2007~2011,but upward trend has been showed in the Eastern Coast.The technological progress and efficiency improvement of carbon emissions performance of construction industry are neither obvious nor coordinated;only the Eastern Coast has showed significant technical progress and efficiency improvement.In most areas,there is ? convergence,there is not ? convergence.In 2004~2014,for 30 provinces,the average shadow price of carbon emissions of construction industry was 2.350 thousand yuan per ton,which is lower than the industrial sector,but still relatively high.Overall,provinces and areas of higher carbon emissions had smaller shadow price(marginal abatement cost),vice versa;provinces and areas of higher carbon emission performance had smaller the shadow price(marginal abatement cost),vice versa;most but not all the provinces has meted above rules.According to the carbon emission performance and marginal abatement costs,the 30 provinces will be divided into four types,namely,"high performance and high cost","high performance and low cost","low performance and high cost" and "low performance and low cost".
