Global warming is becoming more and more serious, and carbon dioxide-based greenhouse gas emissions have become the focus of the international community. As a pillar industry in China, the construction industry plays a vital role in the national economy, but it has high industrial relevance, and there are problems such as high energy consumption, low efficiency, and high carbon emissions. At present, the construction industry in China is unevenly developed and the interregional carbon emissions are significantly different. Therefore,it is important to clarify the spatiotemporal characteristics of carbon emissions in the construction industry, which is of great significance to formulate differentiated carbon reduction policies and low-carbon development strategies. In this context, this paper studies the spatiotemporal characteristics and influence factors of carbon intensity in the China's construction industry from the perspective of time and space.Firstly, based on the carbon emission coefficient method and the input-output method, this paper establishes the carbon emissions accounting model for construction industry, and calculates the national and provincial carbon emissions accurately.Secondly, combined with spatial autocorrelation and standard deviation ellipse methods, this paper describes the spatiotemporal distribution pattern and dynamic evolution characteristics of carbon intensity in construction industry. Finally, based on the objective facts of uneven development of construction industry, this paper constructs a geographically temporal weighted regression model(GTWR)of the influence factors of construction industry carbon intensity, which could explore the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of the impact of different factors on carbon intensity and reveal the driving mechanism for the development of carbon emission in the construction industry. The conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)Carbon intensity of the construction industry in China's provinces shows significant regional differences and spatial agglomeration characteristics, which is characterized by the distribution pattern of “high in the western region, and low in the the eastern region”.The provinces with high carbon intensity are mainly clustered in the west and north, while the provinces with low carbon intensity are mainly located in the east and south.(2)The standard deviation ellipse of carbon intensity in this sector is characterized by a spatial distribution pattern of northeast-southwest,which rotates in a clockwise direction and gradually shifts to the northwest direction. The distribution pattern is relatively stable. The center of gravity of carbon intensity is located in the north of the central part of China. It generally moved to the northwest throughout the whole period of observation.(3)Energy intensity, labor efficiency, industry need, construction intensity and urbanization level have different effects on carbon intensity in different periods and provinces.Energy intensity and construction intensity have positive effects on the carbon intensity of each province during the research period.Labor efficiency, industry need and urbanization level have both positive and negative effects on the carbon intensity of different provinces.(4)The influence of various factors on the carbon intensity of construction industry in different periods and provinces shows spatiotemporal heterogeneity. For example,in terms of industry need, the provinces with positive effects mainly locate in the southeast coast while the provinces with negative effects are distributed in the north and west;urbanization level has positive effects on the provinces which locate in the northern region, while it has negative effects on the provinces which are mostly distributed in the central and southern region. And the number of provinces with negative effects is increasing.
