| In the context of the continuous development of urbanization and industrialization and the increasingl y severe environmental pollution, climate issues have become the focus of attention from all walks of life.To deal with the climate crisis and achieve sustainable development, all countries in the world must put energy conservation and emission reduction in a more prominent position in their development strategies. However,as the main body of CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions, cities are also key areas for carbon reduction. The positive and negative nature of the external environment of urbanization has also attracted the attention of scholars at home and abroad, because through in-depth study of the relationship between cities and carbon emissions and clarification of the mechanism of action between the two,on the one hand,it can improve the theoretical system of urban energy conservation and emission reduction, and on the other On the one hand,it can also adjust relevant environmental protection policies in a timely manner, and increase the transformation of theoretical results into actual results of energy conservation and environmental protection. This article will conduct research on the relationship between urbanization and carbon emissions from both theoretical and empirical aspects.First of all,the research thinking in the theoretical analysis part of this article is to separately explain the impact mechanism of urbanization on carbon emissions from the perspectives of income effect, technological effect and structural effect, thereby constructing the basic framework of the theoretical part of the full text.On this basis, the factors of population agglomeration are then incorporated into the theoretical framework constructed to reveal the differential externalities brought about by urbanization on carbon emissions at different levels of population agglomeration;the reason why this article chooses the level of population agglomeration as an intermediate variable,It is because in many studies on the impact of urbanization on carbon emissions, population agglomeration has received less attention as an important factor. This article strives to make up for this research gap and improve the theoretical system of urbanization on carbon emissions;Secondly, the research sample selected in the empirical part of this article is panel data of 30 provinces(excluding Hong Kong,Macao,Taiwan and Tibet)in China from 2000 to 2016.Based on the STIRPAT model, make corresponding corrections and improvements to construct a linear model of urbanization on carbon emissions. And based on the threshold regression model proposed by Hansen(1999),it was extended to the corresponding nonlinear model.Using population agglomeration as the threshold variable, the threshold characteristics of the impact of urbanization on carbon emissions under different population densities are empirically conducted. The theoretical analysis and empirical research results of the paper show that the impact of urbanization on carbon emissions will vary with the level of population agglomeration, and there is a significant threshold effect.Specifically, the relationship between urbanization and carbon emissions has a single threshold effect of population agglomeration, with a significant "U"-shaped relationship before and after the threshold threshold. Finally, this article puts forward relevant policy recommendations based on the research conclusions obtained.First of all,it is necessary to avoid blindly pursuing the high speed of urbanization, and to consider the degree of population agglomeration in each province, dynamically adjust the process of related urbanization construction, and avoid the negative effects of scale caused by high population density as much as possible; When formulating relevant policies to guide population flow, encourage the development of new energy, and adjust the industrial structure,it is necessary to highlight the agglomeration effect to the greatest extent to reduce carbon emissions in accordance with the development stage of the province’s urbanization and the specific situation of carbon emissions. The innovations of this paper are mainly reflected in the following two aspects:First,in the selected research perspective, using population agglomeration as the starting point to explore the nonlinear relationship between urbanization and carbon emissions is an important factor in the gaps in existing research.Supplement;Secondly,in the research method, the STIRPAT model is used to establish an empirical model with the help of threshold regression model, focusing on the research and analysis of the dynamic impact of population agglomeration on carbon emissions in the process of urbanization, and more novel conclusions are obtained. |
