From Livelihood To Performance: A Study Of Handicraft Revival In Contemporary ——Take Huaning Pottery As An Example

Under the background of modernization,industrialization and urbanization,our country’s economy has developed rapidly,and the society has undergone drastic changes.As one of the important production contents of rural society,handicraft industry has rapidly disintegrated.However,in the face of unsatisfactory problems in modern society,disappointed people turn to the past to find spiritual sustenance and new answers.Handicraft has regained its vitality in today’s era,and it is returning to people’s daily life with a new look that is different from the past.So how has handicrafts as folklore been revived in contemporary times?This paper selects Hua Gai Village,Huaning County,Yuxi City,Yunnan Province as the field investigation site.From the perspective of social mutual-construction,this paper observes the action logic and practical process of three types of actors,namely society,market and official,in the mutual construction field of Huaning Pottery’s rivive.Understand difference,conflict,opposition and adaptation,coordination,integration in mutual construction,observe how subjective meaning changes in interaction,how objective social reality is updated,and how the revival of craftsmanship affects local society.In the past,handicrafts were mainly used as a way of livelihood.Craftsmen made a living by craftsmanship.More generally,people used local materials for production and living and subsidize their households.For a long time,handicrafts have been an important sideline or career choice,playing an important role in household economic income and rural socioeconomic life.In addition,as a means of livelihood,handicrafts profoundly affect the local knowledge and belief system,community identity and collective memory.However,in contemporary,handicrafts are more represented as a kind of performance.People express,communicate,interact and display in the practice of handicrafts.In the process of performance,craftsmanship and local social life are mutually constructed,and the subjective meaning of the local people,social relationship and social order of can be reproduced.In the process of mutual construction of multiple subjects,handicrafts are gradually integrated into local society,and then embedded in local daily life,which has an impact on individuals,groups and society and forms a virtuous circle,truly realizing the revival of handicrafts.The reproduction of local society in the process of handicraft revival provides us with an idea for the governance of hollow villages;at the same time,handicraft revival helps rural economic,social and cultural development also provides a solution for rural revitalization.The traditional culture and the countryside are reflected in the relationship of mutual promotion and mutual benefit.
