Seung H-Sang is one of the most influential contemporary Korean architects. As of 2019,Seung H-Sang has created "IROJE architects & planners" for 30 years.More than 10 books published by it present an architectural concept with "beauty of the poor" as the main body, which contains a large number of reflections and amendments on the architectural system since filial piety relative to Western modernism.Among the hundreds of architectural works he created, based on the local or local era background, city and natural environment,he developed his unique spatial organization mode. This article takes Seung H-Sang’s architectural design concepts and works as the research object, focusing on Seung H-Sang’s "beauty of the poor"concept and related extended concepts,as well as the spatial and temporal elements in architectural works. This article uses a variety of research methods such as literature reading, field visits(including interviews with the "Luluzhai" office),case analysis, comparative reading, etc.,using"spatial operations","topography","landscape urbanism","Multi-disciplinary ideas or theories such as "Chinese traditional gardening"are used as the theoretical basis for the research, exploring the relationship between topography, spatial composition and body perception in Seung H-Sang’s works. The first chapter of the thesis is an introduction. The second chapter of the thesis first explains the factors that have a greater influence on Seung H-Sang’s architectural concept, including the influence of the Korean local environment and the influence of architectural pioneers. Then it elaborates Seung H-Sang’s architectural concepts represented by the "beauty of the poor",and analyzes the reflection and revision of the Western architectural system in Seung H-Sang’s architectural concept. The third chapter of the thesis first introduces the experience and lessons learned by Seung H-Sang in the "Paju Book City" project. Then the analysis shows threetypes of spatial organization patterns for different terrains in Seung H-Sang’s architectural practice:(1)using orthogonal grids as the basic order to control a series of parallel strip-shaped unit spaces,(2)non-orthogonal The basic order controls the space of a series of oblique intersecting strips,(3)the internal differentiation of the overall space as a "gestalt".In the fourth chapter of the thesis, based on the previous description of the spatial composition model, the introduction of the "time" dimension, combined with the author’s on-site inspection experience, analyzes the specific methods of evoking different human perceptions in the three projects.Based on the comparison between "the theory of traditional Chinese gardens" and "the theory of traditional Chinese landscape paintings",a comparative reading is made to clarify that Seung H-Sang’s architectural practice is aimed at "poetic dwelling" and has an oriental landscape orientation.Pay attention to the physical perception of people inside and outside the building.Through this research, the author summarizes the three major categories and seven sub-categories of Seung H-Sang’s works oriented to the terrain space organization mode, and takes the three authors’ fieldwork as examples to illustrate the "landscape orientation" presented in Seung H-Sang’s works And "physical perception".The results of this study can provide specific operating methods for the integration of architecture into the natural or human environment, provide some revision ideas for the current split landscape and architecture caused by professional division of labor in China, and also provide an important reference for the author’s future study and work.
