Nantou Ancient City Experiment:A Preliminary Study Of Spatial Cognition Based On The Theory Of Body Perception

Today’s society has been in the movement of spatial production of capital globalization and urbanization described by Henri Lefebvre.Under the social background of rapid consumption and marketization,architecture design tends to be commoditized,rationalized and homogenized,and gradually moves away from the essence of people-oriented.In addition,the dominant position of vision in industrial and consumerist culture leads people to pay attention to vision instead of body,which leads to some restrictions and exclusiveness.By ignoring the body and the perception,the architecture gradually loses its own characteristics and personality while losing the real experience.This paper is based on the theory of body perception and takes Nantou Ancient City as the research object to perceive its space.It tries to use phenomenological perspective to examine the spatial relations with body perception and explore the basic methods of spatial cognition.It emphasizes the perception,memory and imagination of the body and tries to build the knowledge about the objective world to lay a theoretical basis of architectural design practice return to the body.This paper is divided into three parts: first of all,through preliminary cognition of the theory of phenomenology and related scholars,it comes the main point of view: the body of perception and perception is a cognitive way and media of the world,by phenomenological emphasis on the experience of being and self-experience,it has carried on the thorough discussion from the two dimensions of perception-place and body in order to lay the corresponding epistemological foundation of "spatial cognition" which is related to architecture.Next,it is based on the phenomenological theory to comb architectural space perception,combines the theory of architectural phenomenology and body perception with typical cases and takes the practice of immersion and body experience process to establish comprehensive recognition of space from the site and place spirit to body and the specific spatial perception,from outside order to inner experience,from the space environment background to the body as a direct cognitive space.Finally,it uses the perspective ofphenomenology and architecture phenomenology of perception mode,and takes Nantou Ancient City as the research object,then tries to examine the relationship of body perception and spatial location: it conducts experimental observation and verification of phenomenological theory and knowledge construction of specific experience from geographical space perception and memory of Nantou Ancient City to the space of the perceptual experience(body,events,emotions),from historical memory about the past to the present situation of daily life experience,until the future development and prospect and etc.Finally,the ideological cognitive process from philosophical perception-architectural perception-reality perception is completed.In a word,people use the whole body to perceive,experience and measure the space.The space is carried out around the body,and it is also the place of people’s memory and imagination,and it is completed in the interaction of perception and memory.The research method of experience focuses on the interaction between the real architectural and the feeling individuals.In the interactive space,each audience is not only an audience,but also an actor and a protagonist.Through the complete perception and imagination of visual,unique spatial experience is created and existence is recognized in the perception.
