Research On Public Facilities Of Public Space In Universities Based On Universal Design

With the change of the college and university expansion and education idea,the higher education in China has entered the stage of popularity with continuous increase of students and continuous expansion and new construction of college and university.The public space in college and university becomes more and more comfortable and beautiful.As the important part of public space,public facility affords the main using function of space,therefore we need to make the deep research and exploration for it.At present,the quality of public facility of college and university is continuously rising but it can not keep up with the speed of development of college and university with the existed problems of insufficient amount,low using rate,lack of recognition and lack of beauty.This essay explores the public utilities among public space in college and university based on universal ideas and aims to expand the use of public facilities ranging from healthy adults to all the people including the disabled based on study of universal designs to make it possible for common usage for the disabled and healthy adults.This essay selects three densely populated colleges and universities in Henan and Hubei province as its compared objects of study.The current situation for their public facilities through the field investigation method and the users’ activities and requirements in the forms of questionnaire and interviews are understood to analyze the main problems existed in universal design for public facilities in college and university and explore the reason of its problem.Combined with the excellent cases home and abroad,the optimization suggestions in universal design of public facilities in college and university are put forward.This essay studies five parts of contents with universal design as the starting point.1.The related concept of public space and public facility of college and university is clarified to identify their users as the healthy adult and the disabled and the behavioral characteristics and requirements of different users are analyzed.2.The public facility of public space in college and university is classified to analyze the universal design points of public facilities in college and university.3.To make the field investigation for cases: the current situation of public facility of public space is investigated in college and university;to make the questionnaire for users to analyze the requirements of public facility in college and university byusers;4.To make the summaries of investigation result to find out the problems existed in the public facility of public space in college and university.5.The design idea and method of universal design are introduced to analyze the reasons of existed problems in public facilities of college and university to put forward the optimization suggestions for public facilities in college and university aiming at the problems.
