University campus planning is an impotant isuue that has been concerned by planners.In recent years,with college expansion,the number of students and the size of schools sharply increase.The universities and the surrounding environment are increasingly linked.In the past years,most of the research is carried out within the Interior space of the campus.But this research is obviously not comprehensive. After several visiting in Wuhan Universities,and finally put focus into the near area of College.The area is ignored by the majority of researchers.The reasarch on the public space surrounding university is not separating the campus space and the urban space.The public space surrounding university is a edge of the campus space and the urban space.It is not only an extension of the campus but also an important places of urban residents who live near the college. University surroundings should be beautiful, quiet, orderly teaching,and it is the pioneer in cultural.But in fact, it is not the case. the environment surrounding universities often appear dirty intolerable , disorder and poor, sometimes environment of college affect the teaching order.Now,the domestic universities gate and he surrounding environment are lack in cultural content.They seek high, big, wide and high large-scale investment.. Faced with such contradictions, the surrounding environment for the research university is no longer a technical problem, but a whole society concerned about social issues.The public space surrounding the university is the research object in the article.From starting of campus planning, urban public space, space form and environmental psychology,expand the research of surrounding environment of university by a lot of research.I discuss the public space surrounding the university when I divide the space into the public edge space and the entrance space.The innovation is using system theories to discusse the optimizing of The public space surrounding the university in methods and strategies.The system theories can be regarded as a design method,with space organization,modeling changing, uniforming color,using material,leading to visual design,and combining with urban planning, environmental behavior and city colour,taking shape a design approach to adapting the public space surrounding the university. This design approach advocate to keep balance between unity and diversity in the principle of spatial organization,to cancel borders from closing borders and semi-opening borders. The various elements of design keep balance and rhythm in design process,reasonably using proportion,size,colour to reach the most reasonable combination of visual, eliminating the visual tensions,and ultimately achieving the purpose of guiding code of conduct.The public space surrounding university is a shared physical space that College students and urban residents injoy. Human activity is the source of the creation of space. The quality of space affects the human activities. The public space surrounding the university is changing.It requires a broader scope and deeper level activities to adapt to the needs of the people,that is public space. The natural landscape links up with man-made landscape closely and develop,that is ecology space. The rigid boundaries between different spatial segmentation is broken,the infiltration and the communication of universities and urban space are enhanced,a multi-level and three-dimensional space is built,that is three-dimensional space.The reaseach purpose in this thesis is to study the public space surrounding university and analysis the becoming causes, innovatively use the system theory.The human design,constructing culture environment and promoting color fusion find out a new design strategy abourt the public space surrounding university.I wish to provide some direction references for the public space surrounding university that develop toward more healthy, more humane, more in line with the needs of Wuhan that is a metropolis.
