Due to the influence of stress concentration and welding thermal stress,the shear type metal damper is easy to be destroyed in advance and fails when the energy dissipation ability is not fully exerted.This paper proposes an assembled shear-type mild steel damper.The in-plane force of the steel plate is used to increase the initial stiffness,and by changing the plane geometry of the steel plate,the effect of the different geometry of the steel plate on the performance of the damper is explored.The finite element analysis software is used for numerical simulation of different shapes of dampers,and the stress distribution of the dampers under different shapes,as well as the yield force,initial stiffness,post-yield stiffness and equivalent dampers are analyzed.The optimal shape of the energy dissipation plate in the assembled metal damper is summarized.(1)First,the traditional rectangular steel plate is transformed into an edge form,and the edge of the steel plate is designed into a circular arc,a triangle,and an elliptical arc.Then,the finite element analysis software is used to numerically simulate three models with different shapes and sizes.Based on this model,a large number of finite element analyses were conducted to investigate the influence of the height,width and thickness of the damper on the yield displacement,initial stiffness and yield restoring force of the damper.The stress cloud diagram and hysteresis curve in the simulation results are analyzed,and the data of yield force,initial stiffness,post-yield stiffness,and equivalent damping ratio are calculated.It is concluded that the elliptical edge type damper has the most uniform stress distribution,good hysteresis performance,and good energy dissipation ability.The round edge type damper is followed by the triangular edge type damper with obvious stress concentration and poor energy dissipation ability.(2)The second is to make holes for energy-consuming plates.In terms of the shape of openings,this paper selects the opening methods of diamond,circle,ellipse and strip.For the layout of holes,the methods of single-row layout,double-row layout and three-row layout are adopted.The same is the use of finite element analysis software for numerical simulation of different shapes and different layoutmodels.Analyze the impact of different opening shapes and hole layouts on the performance of the damper.Analyze the stress cloud diagram,hysteresis curve and corresponding data in the simulation results.For all opening methods and hole layout methods,the energy dissipation capacity of the double-row elliptical hole damper is optimal.Other forms of openings include single-row horizontal circular,single-row vertical circular and single-row vertical diamond,double-row circular,and three-row circular stress distribution can also meet the requirements of multi-point yielding,with good energy dissipation capacity.
