Mechanical and electrical products play a mainstay in the national production industry, and the development degree of mechanical and electrical products and mechanical and electrical industry reflects the national level of science and technology. As the largest category of export products in China, the rapid growth of export not only stimulates the growth of Chinese foreign trade and export, but also promotes the adjustment of Chinese industrial structure and the development of national economy. However, there are many reasons behind the export of mechanical and electrical products. From the perspective of technical distance, this paper uses the trade gravity model to carry on the empirical analysis, and combines the data of China and ASEAN from 2008 to 2017.The explanatory variable selected in this paper is the export value of mechanical and electrical products products.Core explanatory variables are technical distance, the number of R&D researchers and patent applications as representative indicators of technical distance. At the same time, the explanatory variables such as GDP,population, total export volume, export value of high-tech products, spherical distance between Beijing and ASEAN capitals are added.According to theoretical analysis and data demonstration to explore the impact of technical distance on the export of mechanical and electrical products from ASEAN.This paper focuses on the specific discussion related to the export of mechanical and electrical products, deeply understands the problems related to the subject, and strives to establish the research on the basis of objective and accurate theory. It is found that the smaller the technology gap between China and ASEAN,the greater Chinese export of mechanical and electrical products to ASEAN.In this paper, according to the customs import and export tax,the mechanical and electrical products are divided into two groups, namely, chapter 16,machinery,mechanical products, electrical equipment and its parts.chapter 17 and chapter 18,vehicles,aircraft and ships, optical, medical or surgical instruments, precision instruments. In this paper,it is found that the effect of narrowing the technology gap on the export of mechanical and electrical products is much higher than that of vehicle and ship and precision instrument.
