Analysis Of Space Features Of Jeoffrey Bawa’s Separate House

Geoffrey Bawa(1919-2003)is a Sri Lankan architect.He has been designing resort hotels and private residences throughout his life.During his nearly 50 years of career,he has designed and built a number of buildings that have had a significant impact on Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia,including residential design throughout his career.This article takes the detached house designed by Geoffrey Bawa as the research foundation,through the analysis and research of the spatial characteristics of the residential works,and tries to find the space operation strategy of Bawa in the residential design.This paper is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the source,research background,research situation at home and abroad,research purpose,research value,research object,research content and research method of the subject,and makes the research paper framework.Chapter Two is an overview of Jeffrey Bawa’s life and creative thoughts.The third chapter divides Bawa’s detached houses into courtyard houses,garden houses and tower houses,and analyzes the spatial characteristics of each type.The fourth chapter analyzes the spatial design strategy of the Bawa detached house from four aspects: the organization of the spatial sequence,the opening of the boundary,the level and penetration of the space,and the richness strategy of the interior space.The fifth chapter draws the conclusion and enlightenment as well as the insufficiency of the research.
