With the blooming of economy and the improvement of people’s living standard,the cooperation between each city becomes more and more active.In order to create more benefits,cities of a region have gradually united into a cluster or a city system.In the process of economic globalization,city clusters plays a more and more important role in the development of countries and regions.On the other hand,transportation network connects the cities of the cluster virtually and physically,i.e.the economic activities and geographical locations,and have an effect on the spatial agglomeration and relocation of the resources and industries.In this case,the disruptions of the transportation network can seriously influence the economic activities and communication between the cities.In this study,we reviewed the literature about network vulnerability analysis,and improved the existed measurement in vulnerability analysis to make the measurement can capture the influence of the disruption of network components from the perspectives of travel time,socio-economic impacts,and level of transportation service of cities.Based on the measurement,we took travel time reliability into account and proposed a vulnerability analyzing modal on the intercity multimode transportation networks.By computing the vulnerability index of the disrupted network under different service level of the transportation network reflected by travel time reliability constraints,the potential impacts of the disruption on transportation network can be analyzed.Finally,a preliminary study of the railway and highway transport network of Pearl River Delta was conducted to illustrate the applicability and reasonability of the evaluating method.The results suggest that the constraints of level of service of the transport network can have a great impact on the results of the analysis.With the consideration of travel time reliability and level of service of the cities,the disruption impacts on the service level,transportation efficiency and cities’ spatial relationships can be well reflected,which is more practical in the vulnerability analysis.In addition,the results of this work can provide some useful information about the maintenance and planning of intercity transportation network as well as the study of sustainable development of city cluster.
