Vehicle communication is an essential part of the Intelligent Transport System, while routing plays an important role in vehicle communication. In recent years,mmWave has been adopted by various communication protocols thanks to its high bandwidth, high speed and low latency.By utilizing high-quality spectrum resources in mmWave, higher throughput can be achieved along with lower congestion.Based on current researches, this thesis studies multihop V2 V communications and mesh networking under mmWave, and the following work has been done. This thesis studies mmWave V2 V mesh networking under 3GPP NR V2 X.Since mmWave comes with high path loss and is vulnerable to blockage, which will lead to low performance, this thesis proposes an enhanced protocol called Milli AODV,including a novel routing metric, discovery process and maintenance procedure.A warning mechanism for Milli AODV is also proposed when link quality degrades,so that the source node can attempt to obtain a new route. This thesis implements mesh networking under NR V2 X and Milli AODV in NS-3 by modifying the current implementation AODV and MilliCar module.Several experiments are conducted to compare the performance of Milli AODV with that of traditional routing protocols. Results show that Milli AODV can have a higher throughput and higher packet delivery ratio. This thesis also studies MilliCar and modifies its implementations to support multi-hop packet forwarding.Changes are made mainly on the Net Device part of the module.ARP simulations are added to make the routing table of the IP layer able to correspond to the logical channels of the lower layer, thus making it possible to deliver a packet to the corresponding logical channel of the next hop stored in the routing table.Besides, this thesis also modifies other parts of MilliCar to support more nodes with a more flexible configuration. The modified implementation not only enables multi-hop functionality, but also provides an environment for further researches on mmWave and V2 V mesh communications.
