In the process of China’s rapid urbanization,the urban structure and land use,the job-housing relationship,and commuting patterns have changed significantly.Among them,the expansion of city scale,job-housing separation,traffic congestion and other factors have caused the commuting time of urban residents to continue to increase.At the same time,cars have gradually become an important mode of transportation for urban residents to commute.Exploring the tolerance threshold of commuting time of car users could help us to better understand their commuting travel behavior,job address selection and possible behavior changes.In this paper,the travel survey data of car users in Kunming is used to study the distribution characteristics and influencing factors of the tolerance threshold of commuting time for car users.The main research work and conclusions are as follows:(1)The distribution characteristics and group differences of the tolerance threshold of commuting time for car users are statistically analyzed,and the rank s um test was used to test the group differences.The results show that the tolerance threshold of commuting time of Kunming car users is mainly distributed within 40 min,accounting for 77.4%,and the average tolerance threshold of commuting time is 32.33 min.The different ages,education levels,occupations,annual family incomes,and the number of children in the family of the tolerance thresholds of commuting time for car users have significant differences in their distribution.(2)Use factor analysis to extract the affective attitude,instrumental attitude and symbolic attitude factors of car users towards cars.On this basis,the ordered Logit model is employed to analysis the influencing factors of tolerance threshold of commuting time for car users.The results show that instrumental attitudes have a significant positive impact on the tolerance threshold of commuting time.Age,gender,education level,driving age,family income,and the number of children in the family have a significant impact on the car users’ tolerance threshold of commuting time.(3)Based on the structural equation model,the influence mechanism of each variable on the tolerance threshold of commuting time for car users is analyzed.The results indicate that symbolic and affective attitudes have a significant direct effect on the tolerance threshold of commuting time for car users,while instrumental attitudes have significant direct and total effects.Gender,occupation and car travel frequency have a significant direct effect on the tolerance threshold of commuting time for car users,and education level has a significant direct and total effect on the tolerance threshold of commuting time for car users.
