Art Museum is a type of building which undertakes cultural collection,as well as collects the past and the future.In recent years,it has flourished all over the world.This is because people have realized the close relationship between art museum and urban cultural development.The Contemporary Art Museum also undertakes the new responsibility for promoting cultural image of city and cultural industry under meeting the basic requirements for exhibition,and gradually develops into a spiritual facility that is close to people’s lives and focuses on cultural needs.As an unparalleled art legacy of China,Chinese classical garden contains rich philosophy of traditional culture.What’s more,the classical Jiangnan garden unifies human and environment,showing designer’s worship of nature.In the contemporary times,with the return of traditional Chinese aesthetics,the amazing garden art of Chinese classical gardens has gradually become an important sources of inspiration for architectural creation.Contemporary Chinese architecture shows a continuation of enthusiasm for continuing traditional culture and classical gardens,so there is an increasingly higher requirements for the study of the theory and designing methods of it.In this context,the thesis is based on the research of the theory of Chinese classical garden in Jiangnan area and the theory of transparency which combined with the case study.Then it puts forward the design method of creating scenic imagery and shallow scenic views in Jiangnan gardens,and to apply it to the design of art museum in the renovation and development of land at Cang Street,Pingjiang District,Suzhou.According to the vertical analysis of the history of the site and the concept of ten scenarios of silk weaving drawn by a painter in Qing Dynasty,three key points of the plan are extracted to reflect the space,theme and details of the museum.Finally,the design try to build a contemporary museum by using the method of Jiangnan classical garden design in Pingjiang District,which carries the memory of the ancient city and has the artistic conception of traditional culture space.Based on the comparative analysis of domestic and foreign architectural space theory as well as relevant examples which proposing design methods,the objective of this design is to analyze the history of the site to refine the concept and to explore the spatial archetypes with characteristics of shallow space in gardens.Then,it is combined with the requirements of art museum for integration and refinement.It is hoped that this idea of design can provide reference for the transformation of traditional space to contemporary architecture,and help architects to reconstruct classics with the spirit of inheriting the culture,and develop the local architectural design language.
