Zhengjue Temple in Yuanming Yuan is a Tibetan Buddhist temple affiliated to the royal garden in Qing Dynasty.It is located on the south side of Qichun Yuan in Yuanming Three Gardens and was built in the 38 th year of Qianlong’s reign.In the temple,there is an octagonal pavilion for manjusri bodhisattva alone,which modelled after new-styled Ma(?)ju(?)rī statue of Shuxiang temple in Mount Wutai.The temple is specially set up for Manchu lamas to chant Buddhist scripture in Manchu and the abbot to burn and repair.The renovation and reconstruction of Zhengjue Temple was completed in 2011.The Zhengjue Temple in Yuanming Yuan is closely related to the belief of Ma(?)ju(?)rī Bodhisattva and the implementation of Manchu Tibetan Buddhism.It is a concrete reflection of the religious belief of the court and the multi-ethnic rule of the Qianlong emperor.The pattern of monasteries and the practices of their remains reflect the characteristics of the construction of official buildings in Qing Dynasty.At present,there is no comprehensive research on Zhengjue Temple from the architectural aspect.On the basis of on-the-spot investigation and literature collection,this paper first sorts out and explains the historical background,general situation and changes of Zhengjue Temple construction.Based on the research materials such as drawing files,Chengfu Village Records and architectural objects,this paper discusses the original state and restoration status of the architectural historical relics of Zhengjue Temple,and discriminates the authenticity of restoration.For the restoration of Zhengjue Hall with problems,the restoration research is based on historical documents and the restoration drawings are drawn.On this basis,the group layout of temples and the space design methods and concepts of buildings are analyzed.Finally,Taking the three temples dedicated to the new-styled Ma(?)ju(?)rī in the Qianlong Dynasty as the research objects,this paper makes an overall analysis of the historical origin of construction and the spatial relationship between these three temples.In this paper,the research on Zhengjue Temple in Yuanming Yuan will be accumulated and supplemented the research of Palace Religious architecture in Qing Dynasty as a case study.It also will have positive practical significance for the protection and utilization of Zhengjue Temple.
