The development of the fire truck industry is closely related to the strength of a country’s fire-fighting force and its research level of heavy equipment.China’s fire truck industry has formed serialized and diversified characteristics and has also made breakthroughs in processing technology.However,compared with developed countries in Europe,China still has shortcomings in the industrial design and innovation of fire trucks.Most of China’ s fire trucks tend to be copies of foreign excellent works or only partially optimize details and lack major appearance features,which is not conducive to forming the brand image and enhancing the product value.In this context,Entrusted by SANY Automobile Manufacturing Co.,Ltd.,a subsidiary of SANY Heavy Industry Co.,Ltd.,the author’s team carried out the "Industrial Design and Development of SANY Forcible Entry Fire Truck and CAFS Fire Truck" project,aiming to create a brand-new fire truck product image and promote SANY’ s brand positioning in the fire protection market.Based on the summary of the project process and results,this thesis is expected to explore the role of industrial design in the development of fire truck series products.First of all,this thesis combined the design requirements of the project and the expected goals of the enterprise,analyzed the specific design tasks and design difficulties,and then planed the project process,work cycle,and resource allocation.Secondly,this article sorted out the preparatory work of the project,including the investigation of the current situation and development trend of the industrial design of fire trucks,the conclusion of the appearance design characteristics of the two fire trucks at home and abroad,the analysis of the DNA of SANY fire truck family products,and the summary of the product structure characteristics through field research.Thirdly,this thesis showed the detailed design implementation steps,from the sketching,the first-round design,the second-round design,the final appearance optimization,the series painting design to the final effect determination.At the same time,the enterprise organized multiple review meetings with the author’s team and negotiated the design plans to ensure the smooth progress of the project.Fourthly,this thesis explained the specific method of digital model construction and introduced the general content of engineering prototype manufacturing,including processing technology and material selection,color processing and painting,and prototype test.Finally,this thesis sorted out the work process of the entire project from preliminary preparation to final output,summarized the success factors of the project,reflected on the problems that had arose in the author’s personal work and the project,and proposed corresponding solutions.In summary,this article is based on project practice and comprehensively records the process and methods of industrial design of forcible entry fire truck and CAFS fire truck.The main innovative output of this thesis includes the development trend of the industrial design of fire trucks,the practical application of design research methods in the design of heavy equipment,and the specific performance of family DNA in the construction of a corporate brand image.This thesis clearly demonstrates the important role that industrial design plays in the development of a new generation of enterprise products,summarizes the general design process and methods,so as to provide valuable references for related design practices in the domain of fire trucks as well as heavy equipment.
