| Waterfronts have been an important urban interface for cities since ancient times,and as we all know,many cities have flourished in close relationship with rivers.During the history of agricultural civilization and industrial revolution civilization,rivers had play important roles such as drinking and irrigation water sources,water power sources and transportation networks which nourished many great cities.Additionally,the waterfront space was often the most vibrant area in the city at that time.However,with the wave of de-industrialization,the waterfront space in urban centers has gradually withered due to water pollution and other problems,so how to renew and regenerate the waterfront area has become a problem that many cities must face.This paper takes the Tonghui River in Beijing as the research object.The two banks of the Tonghui River have experienced the feudal-imperial canal era and the industrialization era of Beijing,which has profound historical deposits,but spatially there is a huge gap with the Beijing Central Business District,which is the symbol of Beijing’s post-industrial economy era.Therefore,this paper attempts to explore the ways of optimizing the waterfront space of Beijing Tonghui River CBD from the perspective of urban renewal.The research of waterfront space in the urban center of the post-industrial era will be conducted in four level.First,the related theories and research results of waterfront space in the post-industrial era at home and abroad will be fully reviewed.In addition,cases study will cover the excellent practices in the world.Base on the theory review and cases study,design principles and strategies will be summarized to guide the design practice.Second,since the Tonghui River was a canal which has a profound history,this paper reviewed the historical information and the spatial evolution from Jin Dynasty till present,and make an inventory of the cultural heritage,in order to highlight the regional culture in the future design.Finally,base on the city development planning and the harsh problems of the site,this paper proposes the design plan in the last part to the Tonghui River of Central Business District section,to make the site suit to meet the needs of people in the postindustrial era.And hoping that this paper will provide a reference for the post-industrial transformation of waterfront spaces in other cities. |
