Report Of Promoting The Kunming-Bangkok Economic Corridor And Boosting The Foreign Trade In Yunnan Province

Under "The Belt and Road Initiative",the strategic positioning of Yunnan province is to make full use of territory advantage and promote the construction of the international transport corridors with surrounding countries,to be the new heights of Greater Mekong Sub-regional Economic Cooperation,and to become a radiation center of South and Southeast Asia.Meanwhile,the GMS economic corridor plays a special part in "The Belt and Road Initiative",because of its good connectivity,secure political environment and high degree of economic dependence between the countries along the economic corridor.Therefore,Yunnan needs to exert advantage of location and rely on the development of GMS economic corridor,to achieve mutual benefit and win-win in the economic and trade cooperation between the countries along the economic corridor.In the construction of the GMS economic corridor,the Kunming-Bangkok economic corridor is the most productive one with perfected hardware facilities.Kunming-Bangkok highway is the fastest route connecting Yunnan Province,Laos and Thailand,which plays a role as a link in promoting the interconnectivity of the regional infrastructure,trade and economic development,as well as the development of China-ASEAN.It has been 7 years from the openness in 2008,and it has contributed a lot to the trade cooperation between China,Laos and Thailand but with a serious “passable” problem waiting to be solved.The construction of the Trans-Asian Railway will force the Kunming-Bangkok highway for further improvement to render a better service to China-ASEAN Free Trade Area.Under the background of "The Belt and Road Initiative",and combined with the specific development needs of Yunnan province and GMS countries,this paper continues to analyze the Kunming-Bangkok economic corridor,which is keeping pace with the times.This paper uses the methods of literature review,field survey to collect a large amount of data and make a deep analysis: firstly,the paper analyzes the situation of foreign trade in Yunnan province and finds out the problems,then,draws the necessity of research.Secondly,the paper describes the current development of the Kunming-Bangkok economic corridor.Thirdly,the paper explores the positive impact and great potentials of Kunming-Bangkok economic corridor.Fourthly,the paper analyzes the existing problems of Kunming-Bangkok economic corridor.Finally,the paper puts forward the corresponding countermeasures for the development of foreign trade of Yunnan province.Through the analysis of the Kunming-Bangkok economic corridor,we can see,it is only at the initial stage of infrastructure construction which is basically completed.And the connectivity,economic and trade cooperation is still weak.In essence,it is not a real "economic corridor".Based on these findings,this paper puts forward relative suggestions:improving the institutional framework,strengthening the infrastructure construction,accelerating the development of cross-border logistics etc.The research conclusion and relevant countermeasures will help to solve the "passable" problems of Kunming-Bangkok highway and promote sustainable development of the Kunming-Bangkok Economic Corridor.And it will promote trade cooperation between Yunnan Province and GMS countries and enhance the development of foreign trade of Yunnan province.
