Architecture,as an important element in the composition of a city,is the most visual representation of a city’s particular style.Today’s economic globalization,while promoting political and technological exchanges,has also led to an increasing convergence of architectural styles between countries.Blind imitation of styles and standardized industrial techniques tend to make architectural styles and features incompatible with the surrounding environment,thus weakening the spatial dialogue between people and history,and weakening the cultural characteristics of a region.The rapid development of the times and the convergence of urban architecture have made people in all countries increasingly concerned with the excavation and development of local culture.While China is absorbing the excellent cultures of various countries,it has become the professional responsibility and social responsibility of contemporary designers to deal with the relationship between local and foreign cultures,between traditional culture and the development of the times,and to reflect the national spirit and cultural confidence through design.Liang Sicheng(1901-1972)was a renowned architect and theorist in modern China,and one of the key founders of Chinese architectural education.As one of the first generation of architects in new China,he devoted himself to exploring the innovative path of traditional Chinese architecture,believing that Chinese architecture should inherit and carry the forward tradition on the one hand,and be contemporary and contemporary on the other.His idea of "Middle and New" design has been influencing future generations with its high foresight and strong leadership of modern architectural design.The main objective of this thesis is to explore how Liang Sicheng’s "medium but new" design thinking can be inherited and innovated to develop China’s excellent traditional architectural culture,summarize the laws of design,to inspire future generations to continue to promote "medium but new" design thinking and to actively apply it to modern design.This thesis focuses on the following five parts: Chapter 1 introductory chapter,which mainly describes the research background,research methods,and literature review,analyses the current research results and status quo at home and abroad,and explains the research methods and innovation points of this thesis.The second chapter is devoted to the systematic analysis of Liang Sicheng’s "medium but new" design thinking,and analyses the basic reasons for the emergence of "medium but new" design thinking in the context of Liang Sicheng’s growth and the times he lived in.The third chapter summarizes the process of the formation of Liang Sicheng’ "Middle and New" design thinking through the analysis of his design works and academic literature in different periods,and then summarizes the main contents of "Middle and New" design thinking and the relationship between "Middle and New" and "New Chinese" design thinking.The course will then summarize the main elements of "Chinese and New" design thinking and the identification of "Middle and New" and "New Chinese style".This chapter further explores the meaning of "Middle and New" and how to achieve it.The fourth chapter analyses the concrete expression of the design idea of "Middle and New" in the context of modern architectural environment design works and summarizes how to inherit the tradition and adapt to the times in architectural design from both national and contemporary aspects.The fifth chapter discusses the application of the "Middle and New" design philosophy to other design fields and further explores the relationship between furniture and furnishings design and the "Middle and New" philosophy due to the integrated nature of Chinese architecture and interior design.This is followed by the construction of a complete design theory system,in which a re-examination of Liang Sicheng’s "Middle and New" design thinking can be extended to the entire design field,to consider the inheritance and development of traditional cultural resources in modern design.Chapter 6 summarizes the research value and future development direction of "Middle and New" design thinking.
