Liang Sicheng's study on the Chinese Architectural History can be divided in two periods: before and after the PRC (the People's Republic of China) was founded. We can also divide the studies on Liang's historical thoughts into two parts. The studies on Liang's Architectural History before the PRC were very comprehensive. Some of there mentioned the theoretical bases, the characteristics and the motive force of his work, Most of these studies didn't pay attention to the comparative research between different books written by the other scholars, such as Chuta Ito, Le Jiazao and Wang Biwen. The first part of this essay was going to complete this comparative study in order to point out the contributions which were made by Liang and Lin in this academe area.Although The Chinese Architectural History was highly recommended as the landmark of Liang Sicheng's research, it still couldn't represent all his historical thoughts. The study after the PRC was in a totally new method: Liang Sicheng, as one of the first scholars who tried to use Historical Materialism in the study of Chinese Architectural History. But some conflicts occurred between his premier and the new theory. These conflicts were enlarged by the unfair animadvert on Liang's bourgeois aestheticism in the 1955, that leaded to a very different treatment between Liang Sicheng and Liu Dunzhen's theoretical thoughts. The second part of this essay was going to review all of Liang's works in this period and some important facts, then tried to find out the great influence which was caused by the Historical Materialism on the research of the Chinese Architectural History.
